I started my running journey in March 2016, having hated all forms of running at school! Encouraged by my then Weight Watchers leader (one of our members!), I started by running one side of a field in my wellies whilst out with my dogs! I didn’t die, so decided to download the NHS C25K app and be serious about it. Run for 60 seconds it said – oh that’ll be easy! It was far from it – I thought my lungs were going to explode out of my chest! I persevered and, although I never completed the whole app, I continued my running journey.
Fast forward to January 2019 and I’ve been a member of WOTR since July 2017. One of the best things I ever did was joining the club, I’ve made some lifelong friends as a result. I am still very much a run/walker, but that hasn’t stopped me from completing over 80 parkruns (mostly at Killerton), several 10K’s, 3x10 milers, 2 half marathons and the Women Can Marathon! Am I ever going to win the race? No! It’s about finish lines for me (and the bling obvs!) and the huge sense of achievement I get from doing this thing I hate!
In October last year, Julie asked me to train as a run leader, funded by the club. I’ve been a run leader since November, very much leading from the back of the group! Seeing others enjoy running makes it all worthwhile!
