About Sue
This is me - running the London Marathon in 2017.
I started running in 2010 having entered the Great West Run (a half marathon here in Exeter) to raise money for a charity that was close to my heart. I just downloaded a plan from the internet, followed it and turned up on the day, not sure that I'd be able to get round. Having done the race I was hooked; the sense of achievement at the end was sufficient reward, but there was also a medal, and a T-shirt. Who doesn't love a bit of bling! Even then it took me a while to pluck up the courage to join Women on The Run. I thought I'd be too slow and too old, but I need not have worried. From the beginning I was welcomed and then I wished that I'd joined earlier as it would have made all that training so much easier. Running on your own is hard but running with others is fun. With encouragement from the group I applied for and was lucky to win the club place to run the London Marathon, which was an amazing experience. Ten years earlier I would not have believed that this was something I could aspire to.
But we're not just about running events and indeed some of us shy away from such things! If you're an experienced runner looking for others to train with or someone just toying with the idea of getting into running, do join us on a Tuesday evening; there will be a group to suit where you are on your running journey.
