I started running 20 years ago at the age of 45. It was a double whammy, I had gone through an early menopause and couldnt take HRT and my mum was diagnosed with Alhzeimers.

From not being able to run 1 mile I ended up entering the GWR 4 times and taking part in the Inverness half and Swansea as a way of raising awareness of Alzheimers and looking after my bone density.

I stopped running when I retired at the age of 60 but 2 years later, I went out for a run in north Yorkshire with my daughter and realised how much I had missed it. My daughter found out about the thursday women on the run group and I joined the beginners group.

I have never looked back since that first session. The group is so welcoming and fun and everyone feels like they have achieved so much. I gain much both physically, emotionally and mentally and have made some good friends.

During the last couple of years I have run in France, Spain and New Zealand, always wearing my Women on the Run T shirt!

This year I decided that I should give something back to the group and so qualified as a running leader. My passion is to encourage 'more mature' ladies to take up running as it is so good in so many ways.
