Sarah's Story
"I'm slow but I am beating everyone on the couch"
This is my favourite running quote because I am not exactly built to be a runner and I am not quick, but for the past 6 years running has been an important part of my life .
I have been fitter and faster and less fit and less fast but one thing has stayed true and that is the friendship, support and fun I get from Women on the Run.
Moving back to the UK from overseas 7 years ago and being new to Exeter was difficult as anyone who has moved to a new area will know. Starting a new life and making new friends can be challenging and hard work. However 7 years on I can happily say I love this city and would not want to live anywhere else, and a huge part of that has been joining Women on the Run.
Running has taken me to some interesting places and given me amazing experiences, from dressing as an alien and running around the river Dart, to tears of joy and relief the end of the Great South Run and drinking too much prossecco the night before the Bristol 10km ( not to be recommended). Most important are the friends I have made along the way, some who are still running some who are not, it is these friendships and the support they bring that keep me attending every week.
If you had told me 10years ago I would be a member and on the committee of a running group I would have thought you were mad, but here I am and believe me if I can do it, anyone can !!
