About Mary
In 2019 I turned 40. My dad had died the year before so maybe I was feeling a bit lost or maybe it was a mid life crisis, but I started to do Couch to 5k. I had never done any running before and definitely felt like runners were a different breed of person that had nothing to do with me.
But I completed C25K anyway. Around the same time a fellow school mum was trying to convince me to join WOTR. Eventually I joined in December 2019.
Over the past few years I’ve made some amazing friends through the group. Always positive, always encouraging, always supportive and always inspiring. We’ve had some great runs in all weathers and over all terrains. We’ve had major life events with much laughter and happiness and have supported each other through tough times too.
In 2022, I completed the Edinburgh marathon in under 4 and a half hours. I still can’t believe I did that but I couldn’t have done it without WOTR.
In 2023 I became a run leader because I wanted to support the group and make sure we could keep encouraging women to join our wonderful group.
