Lesley Rawlings
I joined Women on the Run in 2017 when I was 62.
Having done very little real exercise for over 20 years, barring the occasional swim and cycle ride, I returned home to Exeter after 10 years, and wanted to get involved in something. What that was, I wasn’t sure!!
Weight gain and those medical conditions that effect us all as we get older, were the main things that concerned me, so I took to the internet and found the Women on the Run website.
Knowing that regular exercise was something that I needed, I bit the bullet, pinged an email to the group and received a friendly reply inviting me to attend a group.
Nervously turning up, I was met by a group of welcoming, smiling faces. Ladies of all shapes, sizes and ages and all willing to support and encourage me on my new journey.
Two years on and I have just gained my qualification as a Leader in Running and Fitness, but much more than this, I am so much fitter, losing that extra weight and have found so many new friends. I will never be an ultra-marathon runner, but that doesn’t matter. Just getting out there and doing it is what it is all about.
Remember. It’s never too late to teach us new tricks .... I know!!
