I started running in 2007 entering Race for Life on discovering my mum had skin cancer - she’s been in remission for several years now. I ran other Race for Life 5km and found Parkrun in Jan 2016. Although I wanted to run further than 5km I was convinced running groups were for elite, serious runners.

My sister-in-law entered the Great West Run Half Marathon in Oct 2016 and totally inspired me. She introduced me to Women on the Run and I finally broke my 5km ceiling! By the following March I was ready to run my first 10km race in the Exeter Age UK Race and that October I ran the Great West Run Half Marathon.

I feel tremendously lucky to have been encouraged by everyone I’ve met at Women on the Run to progress and gain my confidence. I’ve now got the opportunity, as a leader, to help support other ladies to also find the confidence to give running groups a go, fall in love with it and shatter their own limits.
